Before investing in modern cloth diapers, I read tonnes of reviews during my pregnancy and decided on Drybees Pocket Diapers. My first purchase was 5 S-size Drybees from Babe Hause (discounted newborn package) and I used them on Baby V from his second month.

They ran out extremely fast as Baby V poo-ed from 8 to 11 times a day! I did not like traditional cloth diapers (lampin) as it was time-consuming to fold them and they felt very wet around Baby V’s waist.

I bought another 5 S-size Drybees from Babe Hause; the 10 diapers were sufficient for most days.

Even though Drybees Pocket Diapers are popular, the production is stopped this year. When I first received the news, I armed myself with 10 M-size Drybees from Babe Hause and MiaBambina before they run out.

Baby V is a large baby with chunky thighs and he started using M-size when he turned 5 months (~8.4kg). I admit to squeezing him a little into S-size for a week or two!

Babe Hause is doing a clearance sale for Drybees pocket diapers at 25% to 30% off. Grab them while stocks last!

Pros:

Velcro tabs: very easy to use and adjust (Daddy changes Baby V’s diapers and supports Drybees too.)

Inner suedecloth layer keeps baby’s skin dry and rash-free

Sunning the diapers removes poo stains easily

Leak-free when worn properly (for Baby V: up to 3-4 hours using 1 Drybees microfibre insert)

Roomy pocket for inserts

Attractive prints: save money on buying shorts and satisfy mummy’s vanity

Cons:

Velcro tabs: those on 2 diapers curled outwards after washes, so may not stick as well as before

Elastic not encased with extra row of stitching, so needs to ‘roll’ inner suedecloth layer into the diaper (around baby’s thighs) for better coverage

Inner suedecloth material: 2 different materials used in my 10 diapers. In 3 diapers, the inner material pilled badly. I wished only the pill-free material was used.

Despite the above concerns, I still love Drybees pocket diapers.

Read more about other pocket cloth diapers that I love here:

I bought a Wahmies Fun Prints Wet Bag (Regular size) when it was on sale at Mia Bambina (listed price: RM60) and just bought another one from Babe Hause. I adore the beautiful prints!

Besides cloth diapers, it is also great for holding milk-stained clothes, wet face cloths, dirty bibs and swimwear. My new wet bag is used for holding Baby V’s lunch/dinner (and the accompanying cutlery and bib) when we dine outside.

The wet bag is a must-have item in a diaper bag!

What we like about it:

Multi-purpose

Keeps the diaper bag well-organised

Keeps wetness and odour in

Washes very well (machine-washable)

Attractive prints

What can be improved:

Add a handle

For the past 10 years or so, I religiously used disposable pantiliners since I could not stand the sight of stained panties. The synthetic materials are not very absorbent, non-breathable and feel sticky or wet at the end of the day. Occasionally, they even irritate my sensitive skin.

When I started reading up on cloth diapering, I came across information on washable cloth pads. As I was already convinced of the enormous benefits of cloth diapering, I was thrilled to know of cloth pads for women! No more explosure to harmful chemicals at one of our bodies’ most sensitive areas, how wonderful!

I bought three Lunapads Teeny Pantiliners (listed price: USD10.99 or RM41) from Mia Bambina and have never turned back to disposable pantiliners ever since. They are very comfortable (cannot feel their presence when worn) and such a pleasure to look at. They also save me from emergency trips to the pharmacy or supermarket to top up supplies of disposable pantiliners.

I also bought a few of these pantiliners for my mum. They are great for slight incontinence too, which is commonly experienced during pregnancy (so much weight pushing on the bladder) and during middle to old age.

When my menstrual cycles return (post-breastfeeding days), I certainly look forward to trying out cloth menstrual pads too.

Feel free to share this information with other ladies.

Pros:

Breathable — gentle on the skin

Very comfortable

Absorbent

Stay in place

Easy to care for — stain-free after handwashing (machine washable too)

Pretty designs

Cons:

Colour run experienced on dark coloured pantiliners (“Leopard” & “Hats & Heels”)

Surface becomes fluffy after washes (I would prefer them to be smoother.)

After a few weeks, I got tired of using cotton wool because:

it was a hassle to tear them from the big roll of cotton wool

it was inconvenient to keep having to buy more cotton wool

it took A LOT OF cotton wool to clean a big poo mess

Therefore, I bought a stack of Wahmies Multi-Purpose Cloth Wipes at RM5.50 each from Mia Bambina.

Cloth wipes complement cloth diapers perfectly as they can be wrapped in the diaper and left in the diaper pail until laundry time. It was very easy to clean voluminous explosive breastfed poo using cloth wipes and water, compared to using cotton wool or disposable wet wipes (which are relatively small and thin).

Baby V was more of a heavy poo-er than heavy wetter. For months, he poo-ed through the day and sometimes at night (fortunately not anymore). His record was 11 times in a day!

Now, at 5+ months, he has a HUMONGOUS poo (that can fill cover up to 3/4 of an M-size diaper) in 1 or 2 days, which can be cleaned only by cloth wipes or washing his bum.

When the Wahmies cloth wipes reached me, they were uber-soft. However, after machine-washing and line-drying them, they became a little rough and stiff. For the second batch that I bought, I placed them in a laundry net before throwing into the washing machine and they turned out much better.

Pros:

Gentle on baby’s skin — no diaper rash (unlike disposable wet wipes)

Save money — no need to keep buying cotton wool or wet wipes

Large enough to clean a huge poo mess

Truly multi-purpose: use different prints for bum, as wash-cloth and hanky

Remain stain-free after sunning

Cons:

Did not retain uber-softness after washes

(Tip: place in laundry net when washing to keep them softer and smoother)

I bought 6 S/M-size and 6 M/L-size Drybees microfibre inserts from Babe Hause (Inserts Package) to go with Baby V’s Drybees Pocket Diapers.

The S/M-size inserts did not work for Baby V at all. Ironically, the S-size diapers leaked when used with the smaller inserts but not with the larger inserts. The S-size inserts are shorter than the diapers while Baby V may have pee-ed a lot at one go, therefore giving the inserts insufficient time to absorb. Now, the inserts act as spare boosters or to be used two at a time.

On the other hand, the M/L-size inserts are longer than the S-size diapers, so I folded the excess to fill the front of the S-size diaper and this was perfect for boys like Baby V. These inserts work well with the M-size diapers too.

Pros:

Absorbent even though made of microfibre (For Baby V, at 5 months old, one can last for 3-4 hours. With 2 trim GAD hemp boosters added, they last through 12 hours!)

Wash well and remain stain-free after sunning

Dry relatively quickly (11a.m. to 4p.m. on sunny days, so can be re-used fast)

Fit width of Drybees Pocket Diapers nicely for optimum absorption

Cons:

S/M-size inserts did not work for Baby V when used alone

Drybees Fleece Pocket Diapers have given Baby V and me hundreds more hours of night-time sleep and I adore them!

Initially, Baby V was on Mamy Poko disposable diapers at night and had to be changed every 4-5 hours. Any longer, they could leak or Baby V could develop a diaper rash. As Baby V was a super-light sleeper, it could be a battle trying to get him back to sleep again.

I ended these night-time changing episodes by putting Drybees Fleece Diapers (bought from Mia Bambina, listed price: RM63) on him. They work wonderfully and last through 12 hours.

Since Baby V is a large baby, the thick diaper looks fine on him. We simply have to put larger pyjamas on his bum.

Pros:

Breathable fleece material and stay-dry innert suedecloth material keep Baby V diaper-rash free even after 12 hours nightly

Eliminates need for night-time diaper changing and gives parents and baby more hours of sleep

Inner material washes well and remains stain-free after sunning

Cons:

Bulkiness can overwhelm smaller-sized babies
