Mosquitoes love flying into our bedroom, so we prepared ourselves by getting Buds Mozzie Clear Lotion before Baby V’s arrival.
Previous Formula
The previous version was a 50ml non-organic lotion with essential oils, beta glucan and portulaca extract. I applied a thin layer on Baby V’s forehead, neck and behind his ears since the rest of his body is swaddled up. And yes, hubby and I use it too, all over our arms, hands, legs and feet.
The lotion deterred mosquitoes well enough. On nights when forgot to apply the lotion, we could be bitten several times by the persistent and irritating mosquitoes. Then we would be scrambling in the dark for “Mozzie Clear”. Maybe it should be in a glow-in-the-dark tube!
Updated Organic Formula
To my delight, Buds Mozzie Clear Lotion has recently been updated with an organic formula. Now, it comes in 75ml (RM29.90) and contains citronella oils, portulaca extract and aloe vera. The bigger tube means less shopping needed since we use it nightly. Although it is organic, Baby V’s forehead turn a little reddish for a short while after the lotion is applied.
Pros:
- Organic content
- Deters mosquitoes relatively well
- Absorbed well by the skin (neither oily nor creamy)
Cons:
- Baby’s skin reacted to it by turning reddish for a short while (quite an insignicant matter to us)

Good review! Thanks! After reading this I’m thinking to get one tube but then I heard that you have to re-apply the lotion every 2 – 3 hours to ensure the smell lasts. Is that true? Can it last the whole night?
Hi Isha, you may refer to my updated post on keeping the mosquitoes away: https://www.mummysreviews.com/2011/03/10/how-to-protect-baby-from-mosquitoes/
Good luck! 🙂
